Vacation Planning Tips for Family Holidays

Thursday, August 19th, 2010

If you are ready to hit the water and experience fishing at its best, then you need to get busy and start planning your Virginia Beach fishing charter trip right away. Your best bet is to get a head start so you will be able to take your time and plan for the best trip ever.

The first thing you are going to need to do is decide what kind of fish you would like to have a go at catching. If you aren’t sure of the kinds of fish that are in the waters off Virginia Beach, you could call the captain of the charter boat you are thinking of reserving and ask him.

Some charter fishing trips have package deals that will include everything you will need minus your clothes. Talk to the captain of your choice of charter boat and see just exactly what will be provided for you. In this way, you won’t be taking along unnecessary items. Always write down everything that you will have to remember to take with you.

The next step in planning your charter fishing trip is to get a total price and pay your captain a deposit on your trip dates so he will be assured that you are in earnest about your plans to be there. A lot of people will make these kinds of plans then leave the charter boat waiting when they could have arranged for someone else to take that spot. This will cause that captain to lose money. If you learn that you won’t be able to keep your scheduled trip date, be sure to call and cancel so someone else can take your place. This is just common courtesy on your part.

Fishing rods, tackle, and bait are the most important items you will need to have on your Virginia Beach fishing charter trip. You will want to make absolutely sure the captain doesn’t include any of these things before you pack them up to take with you onto the boat. If the case is that you will be taking your own fishing gear, talk to the captain about what kind of fish he thinks you will catch. This will help you in determining what kind of rod and reels to take. You should take a variety of test line and a couple of different rods as well.

You are going to need to find out exactly what the captain includes in his particular charter package before you start packing the things you are going to take with you. Will you need to bring a cooler and food and drink? Does the captain provide the food and drink? You may want to bring a cooler of beer if alcoholic beverages are allowed on board.

Always remember to wear the right clothes. You will need a jacket even during the summer months because the mornings on the water are chilly. You don’t need to wear shoes that could be slippery when thy get wet and end up causing you to fall. Tennis shoes with a good tread or deck shoes are the best choices. Bring a change of clothes in case you get dirty. You may end up smelling like fish.

You will absolutely love your Virginia Beach fishing charter excursion. Hope for good weather and plan ahead for the best fishing experience you could ever have.

In a hotel you often have to climb stairs or ride an elevator to your room, if you are in a wheel chair this can be a difficult task as parking is often far away from where you are staying.

Getting Ready For A Relaxing Excursion At The Beach

Tuesday, May 18th, 2010

So you have booked a one week vacation to a great beach location. Now, you’re getting too excited you literally want to bring your whole closet with you to make sure you will always stay fashionable.

Let’s get realistic though, is that really a good idea, particularly considering how much the airline will charge for all that weight? Right here are the vital tips and hints on what you are really going to need to look super stylish at the beach.

Only take as many swimming outfits as there are days on your holiday, and maybe one more. You never know if there will be some fashion crisis or problem.

In fact, some smarter travelers just pack half the number, wash the bikinis they have used, and use it again. Don’t worry about getting caught in the same bikini twice, because chances are, there would be too much partying and too many people that they really wouldn’t notice.

Another helpful tip is to put all of your toiletries into smaller containers. These are widely available from all kinds of shops and it means you can just put all your favorite products into mini-vacation sized containers.

You should also talk to your hotel about whether they provide towels. Most places will and that means you only have to pack a good sized one for the beach.

The next point is extremely important. You don’t want to get suckered into buying another pair of shoes or sandals while away, so pack two comfortable pairs of footwear. One can be rubber slippers or a sandal of some sort for the beach, and the other should be a more common comfortable shoe. It’s common for beaches to have different activities for you to do, so ensure you have the right footwear to do them in.

These are simple yet really useful tips that you can follow if you don’t want to pay extra on your excess luggage without sacrificing style and fashion.

European Beaches: Es Pujols And Es Calo

Tuesday, May 18th, 2010

Formentera is made up of a number of villages with diverse characteristics. For example the old fishing harbor of Es Calo is quite different from the resort Es Pujols. Let’s take a look at them both. Until the 1920s Es Calo was used for shipping sandstone, charcoal and wood. These days there are still a few fishing boats, and they provide the fresh fish for the restaurants Rafalet and Pascual, which are known to be some of the best. There used to be a monastery in Pilar de La Mola, and sitting right at the foot of Cami Roma meant that Es Calo was a handy location for the monks to moor their boats.

The beach at Es Calo is on the northern coastline which means it gets windy in the afternoons and is rocky. However, it is well worth visiting in the mornings and the neighboring beach of Ses Plagetes is small but stunning. The rocks attract a l lot of interesting fish so it is one of the best places to enjoy snorkeling.

At just five minutes away from Es Calo Ses Plagetes is very convenient as it provides protection from the winds and you get a decent view of La Mola.

Es Pujols is a contrast to Es Calo and is a beach resort made up of two crescent-shapes looking out onto some islets that people like to swim or paddle over to. Whatever water sport you want to do, they have it here, from canoeing to windsurfing, and even para sailing. The disabled can also access the waters from a special entry point.

Es Pujol’s promenade, that sits just behind the beach, is known as Ac, then further behind that is the high street which is known as Passeig des Plameres. In the summer these streets, and the networks of narrow paths around them, are lined with market stalls that sell trinkets and jewelry.

If you are looking for an Ibiza-style wild night then you will not find it on Formentera, but the island does have some night clubs in Es Pujols.

Oh How I Love Ohio

Tuesday, May 18th, 2010

Ohio is not commonly linked with “outdoor adventure,” but you may be surprised to realize that the Buckeye State has an wealth of state parks where there is excellent rock climbing and rappelling, kayaking and wildlife tours in addition to a range of natural, historic, and urban attractions that include theme parks and more. An intimate Ohio bed and breakfast or one of the state’s comfy cabin rentals is a perfect source from which to explore everything that Ohio has to offer.

The Ohio countryside is a blend of fertile farmland and lush deciduous forest. One of the most scenic locations is the Hocking Hills region, a section of the Allegheny Plateau featuring lofty gorges, waterfalls and an abundance of caves. Ohio also has its share of remarkable archeology; a pre-Columbian civilization existed in the area over 2,000 years ago, leaving burial mounds and other earthwork structures behind that you can explore today.

There are a number of Ohio bed and breakfast houses in the Hocking Hills area, some of which are 100-160 years old. Many are open year round and some are open only at certain times of the year. You’ll want to do some investigation on this before planning your vacation. The fall colors in the Hocking Hills region are as spectacular as those in New England so plan ahead. Those who are looking for more economical accommodations closer to urban centers will find a wide range of facilities from which to choose.

While in southern Ohio, a few places worth touring include the Wake Nation Water Park which provides thrills that you won’t find at an ordinary water park. A different attraction is The Wilds, a unique animal attraction where the animals wander uninhibited and people stay in their cars. History buffs will not want to pass up a trip to Amish Country, where the Amish have stood true to their traditions for nearly two centuries. Further north, close to Lake Erie, you can experience living history for yourself, riding a mule drawn canal boat and experience life in the 1850s directly at The Canal Experience. Amish country has many Ohio vacation rentals to pick from, depending on your resources and preference.

A lovely time to go to Ohio is in the spring and fall. The weather is mild, the humidity is low, and the colors in each season are beautiful. Amish country is really a treat for delectable home made meals, hand carved wood workings, quality hand made quilts for sale, and an instruction regarding a simpler way of life. Come to Ohio for outdoor activities and take pleasure in their plentiful picturesque bed and breakfasts.
