Vacation Planning Tips for Family Holidays

Thursday, August 19th, 2010

If you are ready to hit the water and experience fishing at its best, then you need to get busy and start planning your Virginia Beach fishing charter trip right away. Your best bet is to get a head start so you will be able to take your time and plan for the best trip ever.

The first thing you are going to need to do is decide what kind of fish you would like to have a go at catching. If you aren’t sure of the kinds of fish that are in the waters off Virginia Beach, you could call the captain of the charter boat you are thinking of reserving and ask him.

Some charter fishing trips have package deals that will include everything you will need minus your clothes. Talk to the captain of your choice of charter boat and see just exactly what will be provided for you. In this way, you won’t be taking along unnecessary items. Always write down everything that you will have to remember to take with you.

The next step in planning your charter fishing trip is to get a total price and pay your captain a deposit on your trip dates so he will be assured that you are in earnest about your plans to be there. A lot of people will make these kinds of plans then leave the charter boat waiting when they could have arranged for someone else to take that spot. This will cause that captain to lose money. If you learn that you won’t be able to keep your scheduled trip date, be sure to call and cancel so someone else can take your place. This is just common courtesy on your part.

Fishing rods, tackle, and bait are the most important items you will need to have on your Virginia Beach fishing charter trip. You will want to make absolutely sure the captain doesn’t include any of these things before you pack them up to take with you onto the boat. If the case is that you will be taking your own fishing gear, talk to the captain about what kind of fish he thinks you will catch. This will help you in determining what kind of rod and reels to take. You should take a variety of test line and a couple of different rods as well.

You are going to need to find out exactly what the captain includes in his particular charter package before you start packing the things you are going to take with you. Will you need to bring a cooler and food and drink? Does the captain provide the food and drink? You may want to bring a cooler of beer if alcoholic beverages are allowed on board.

Always remember to wear the right clothes. You will need a jacket even during the summer months because the mornings on the water are chilly. You don’t need to wear shoes that could be slippery when thy get wet and end up causing you to fall. Tennis shoes with a good tread or deck shoes are the best choices. Bring a change of clothes in case you get dirty. You may end up smelling like fish.

You will absolutely love your Virginia Beach fishing charter excursion. Hope for good weather and plan ahead for the best fishing experience you could ever have.

Getting To Know The Different Animals Of Your Local Zoo

Wednesday, May 19th, 2010

Ever since I can remember, I’ve loved going to the zoo. Growing up in San Diego, I was really able to gain an appreciation for the wide range of species in the world by visiting the local zoos. Many of my childhood weekends were spent at the city zoo, observing the animals and studying their different behaviors.

Even now that I’ve grown up, I’m still an animal lover and I still enjoy visiting the zoo whenever I can. I think it’s a great place to visit as it’s both entertaining and educational. Here are a few of the animals that I try to see every time I’m at the zoo.

Dolphins are always great fun to watch. As mammals, they’re actually quite intelligent, and they’re very friendly as well. They can have very sweet personalities, and they love receiving attention and affection from humans.

Monkeys, chimpanzees, and gorillas make up what is probably my favorite group of animals to see at the zoo. Since they’re so close to human beings, they put on a very entertaining show.

These animals will constantly surprise you and entertain you with their mannerisms. You could watch them for hours and you’d surely find yourself laughing out loud several times. Watching them always puts a smile on my face, and they never fail to provide some much-needed laughs.

The last animal that I’ll bring up is the elephant. I’ve loved these animals for a long time; despite their tremendous size, they are very intelligent and they definitely express emotions.

Find out if your local zoo offers an elephant exhibit, and make sure to visit the exhibit if it’s there. To me, elephants are one of the most interesting creatures to watch in the zoo. I could sit there and study their behaviors all day.

Next time you find yourself at the zoo, find out if it offers exhibits of any of these animals, and check them out if they’re available. You might be surprised by how intelligent and sophisticated they are in behavior.

European Beaches: Es Pujols And Es Calo

Tuesday, May 18th, 2010

Formentera is made up of a number of villages with diverse characteristics. For example the old fishing harbor of Es Calo is quite different from the resort Es Pujols. Let’s take a look at them both. Until the 1920s Es Calo was used for shipping sandstone, charcoal and wood. These days there are still a few fishing boats, and they provide the fresh fish for the restaurants Rafalet and Pascual, which are known to be some of the best. There used to be a monastery in Pilar de La Mola, and sitting right at the foot of Cami Roma meant that Es Calo was a handy location for the monks to moor their boats.

The beach at Es Calo is on the northern coastline which means it gets windy in the afternoons and is rocky. However, it is well worth visiting in the mornings and the neighboring beach of Ses Plagetes is small but stunning. The rocks attract a l lot of interesting fish so it is one of the best places to enjoy snorkeling.

At just five minutes away from Es Calo Ses Plagetes is very convenient as it provides protection from the winds and you get a decent view of La Mola.

Es Pujols is a contrast to Es Calo and is a beach resort made up of two crescent-shapes looking out onto some islets that people like to swim or paddle over to. Whatever water sport you want to do, they have it here, from canoeing to windsurfing, and even para sailing. The disabled can also access the waters from a special entry point.

Es Pujol’s promenade, that sits just behind the beach, is known as Ac, then further behind that is the high street which is known as Passeig des Plameres. In the summer these streets, and the networks of narrow paths around them, are lined with market stalls that sell trinkets and jewelry.

If you are looking for an Ibiza-style wild night then you will not find it on Formentera, but the island does have some night clubs in Es Pujols.

Basic Table Manners For Restaurants

Tuesday, May 18th, 2010

Proper table etiquette in restaurants is just as important as it is at Sunday night dinner. The problem is that many people don’t realize this and if they do choose to throw everything they know of good manners straight out the window when entering the establishment. This is a shame since poor manners reflect directly upon you, your dinner party, and even your country if you are a tourist. Most Canadians understand this so for those that may be visiting or for those that may have forgotten the following is a quick review of what everyone should already know.

Canadians are no different when it comes to the desire of proper dining etiquette. They enjoy, like all of us, a nice meal free from vulgarity and insult. A good rule of thumb at any dinner situation is to act as you would if your mother was sitting right next to you. Would she allow you to keep your elbows on the table? Probably not so do not keep them there. Just because you are out in public depending on someone else to cook and serve for you does not give you license to be rude if anything it should redouble your desire to behave properly.

Some of the basic etiquette are also the ones that take the most common sense. Do not talk with your mouth full, just do not it is incredibly rude and disgusting and chances are you are going to spoil someone’s appetite. If you need something from a server, swallow that bite and politely call them over. Do not snap your fingers instead softly call the server over.

That napkin is there for a purpose so use it. You may not be accustomed to cloth napkins so here are some points to remember. If it is a smaller size napkin keep it unfolded and on your lap. Larger napkins are usually folded in half but they are still kept in your lap. Use the napkin to dab at the corner of your mouth and if need be, other areas of your face. Do not use it as a tissue or to clean up spills.

While children will never be turned away from eateries, you will still want to make sure that they are well behaved and kept in check. Well behaved children are always a delight but ones that insist on running around, throwing food, or talking out of turn will certainly turn a good meal sour. If you do not allow you child to do something at the house then why let them do it out in public?

While tipping can be tricky there are a few universally agreed upon rules that you can follow. If the host is picking up the bill it is generally understood that he is going to take care of the tip as well. You should never leave anything extra even if you do not find the amount fair; this is just insulting to your host. Gratuity is usually added to large groups but feel free to add more if the service was beyond par. Fifteen to twenty percent of the bill is considered an average tip. If everyone is responsible for their own bill then they are also responsible for their own tips. Do not tip less then the smallest tip amount or much more then the largest amount.

Canadians in particular follow some etiquette that is just outdated in the United States of course other countries may still follow these rules. Pass to the right when in a family style setting. Other examples include serving the women first and then the men and the host will be the one making the toasts. Wait until everyone is served before eating is another great point of etiquette. Wine is usually served at dinners so be mindful of how you drink. Sip the wine, you certainly will not want to get drunk at a formal dinner.

Etiquette and manners are important to our modern society. Without which we will possibly cause the collapse of the civilized world. Proper behavior in restaurants is especially important and reflects well on you and those around you. Tourists are often the ones that forget their manners when visiting different countries. You may see out of town visitors and think to yourself that they are rude and vulgar but maybe they are just not aware of local customs. For example Canadians may find it unusual that Americans want their plates cleared away as their done instead of waiting until the end of the meal. So if you travel be aware of rituals, customs, and other points of manner that you may not be used to. Restaurants are a great place to go and relax for lunch or an evening meal but do not do it with some amount of decency and manners.

There are a variety of places that you can go to purchas your meal, you can choose to eat at home with your family and pets and pick up your food at a grocery store, or you can choose to eat out at a restaurant or fast food place.

Good Restaurants Are A Mainstay For A Complex Economy

Tuesday, May 18th, 2010

The economy is in the dumps. It seems that is all we hear or read about these days. It jumps out at us while we watch television and there when we turn on the radio in the car and it is in our face when we boot up to check e-mail. About the only thing we can afford to do to entertain the family is go out to restaurants. Even in a bad economy, we will still have to wait if we go to a good one.

When money is tight, families as well as businesses perform a thorough review of expenses, looking for the low hanging fruit that can be eliminated with the least impact on our lifestyles. This enduring recession has had a dramatic affect on nearly very portion of the leisure and daily activities engaged in by average American families. Seemingly sacrosanct events like television newspapers and magazines have been hard hit with lost or reduced subscriptions. But eventually, every family will find a way to save enough for some relaxing family time. With travel and theme parks entering the too expensive arena, going out for dinner becomes a palatable and enjoyable alternative.

But no matter how grim things are, families have to eat and so it is a natural transition to melding dinner and entertainment into a single event. Nearly every family has a favorite place where they might to go out and eat. Using the mail is rewarding way to entertain everyone is frugal yet gets the family out of the house. Moms get a break and Dads can feel good about the price.

With the number of different facilities catering to every individual cuisine preference, it is a matter of getting everyone to decide on what kind of food they want. Once that is settled, any reputable place will be able to satisfy everyone. Of course, there are always those times when everyone wants something different, and those times are exacerbated by less frequent opportunities. That is why they invented the buffet dinner.

There is also the matter of ambiance; fast food places do not always satisfy the need for a dining experience. This is the time to do a little homework and perhaps find a way to gain some advantage from this otherwise dismal economy. Just like families, businesses are suffering from the less frequent dining out frugality that has swept the nation. In response, there are some clever and rewarding ways businesses are vying for the reduced spending dollar. Eateries are offering manager specials, package dinner experiences and even buy one get one free coupons to entice patronage.

Business trips, while severely limited in number during this austerity, still exist and create a need for the businessman to eat out. Hotel fare may be reasonable, but one does not usually conduct business in the hotel, so finding a place that is palatable and affordable is a key part of every trip. The easiest way is to find a place in the business location that is a franchise form a place you know at home. This allows more time to focus on the business and less on what and where to eat.

If one must get to the business location via plane, the whole issue of eating becomes more important. Once we could be reasonably sure we would have adequate food, if not our personal favorite, on longer flights. Today we are grateful for the opportunity to buy a snack on the plane, or we bring something with us, adding to the complex nature of cramming ourselves and our belongings into our allotted space.

Taking the family or going out oneself for business, restaurants will always serve an important need in our lives. We often find one or two places the whole family can enjoy; we are rewarded by their good business, they are rewarded with our patronage. This symbiotic relationship develops in good times, and perseveres through the difficult times. It is a testament to the value of solid business principles that the family feels comfortable patronizing restaurants as a means of entertainment and a way to support the economy.

There are a variety of places that you can go to purchas your meal, you can choose to eat at home with your family and pets and pick up your food at a grocery store, or you can choose to eat out at a restaurant or fast food place.
